Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer® at WeStreet Ice Center Raises Thousands for Cancer Research
TULSA, Okla – February 20th 2025 — WeStreet Ice Center’s highly anticipated Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer® event, held on February 15, 2025, was a resounding success, drawing a full house of supporters, figure skating fans, and community members for a night of inspiration and world-class entertainment.
The event, hosted by Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton, was part of the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation initiative, which raises funds for innovative cancer research and supports local care programs, including the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma. Tulsa came out in force to support the cause, with the arena packed for the Celebration Ice Show — an evening of breathtaking performances from local skaters, visiting professionals, and program participants who fundraised their way onto the ice.
“We were so proud to bring this event to Tulsa and deeply moved by the overwhelming support from our community,” said Justin Lund, VP of Operations of WeStreet Ice Center. “Having Scott Hamilton here to lead this cause and inspire skaters and guests made it an unforgettable night.”
The evening also featured heartfelt stories from cancer survivors and supporters, followed by a showstopping lineup of figure skating performances. The rink’s festive atmosphere, complete with themed lighting and décor, added to the sense of celebration and purpose.
The following day, the momentum continued at the Frozen 5K at Oilers Ice Center, where dozens of runners and walkers hit the ice in a unique fundraiser, further boosting donations for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.
Participants had the opportunity to register for the event for $35, which included a commemorative Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer® t-shirt. Many fundraisers earned the chance to perform in the Celebration Ice Show itself — a hallmark of Scott Hamilton’s mission to turn passion into purpose.
The event served as a testament to WeStreet Ice Center’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and meaningful causes, reinforcing its role as both a recreational hub and a leader in charitable initiatives in Tulsa.
Event organizers confirmed that this year’s program surpassed fundraising expectations and are already in discussions about bringing the event back in future seasons.
